Mark S. Baranski

Mark S. Baranski is Senior Vice President of Overland Development Group, LLC (“ODG”) a wholly-owned subsidiary of Overland Capital Group, Inc. Mr. Baranski is responsible for the identification and development of land and existing real estate assets that fulfill the risk, return and term parameters of Overland Capital Group, Inc. as well as providing workout and general partnership management services. He has over twenty years of experience in the development and construction industry, having owned, developed and managed projects on his own account and in conjunction with institutional equity providers. Mr. Baranski's projects at Overland have ranged from the acquisition, entitlement and sale of a luxury condominium development in Boston to providing general partnership management services in the forbearance, refinance and re-structuring (new property management, new leasing program, $2MM in capital improvements) of a class A multi-family asset in Maryland. He is presently performing general partnership management services in the rehabilitation of an 800+ unit Class B apartment portfolio in Texas.

Prior to joining ODG, Mr. Baranski was a General Partner/Sponsor focusing on larger-scale urban infill projects. He completed 424 Mass Ave., a highly successful ground-up infill project located in Boston’s historic South End that was honored by the Boston Preservation Association as “Notable New Construction.” He has finalized entitlements with the Boston Redevelopment Authority to develop a residential project in the Mission Hill section of Boston. The site, near the Longwood Medical Area and between two transit stations, will be re-developed into a 65-unit, four-story building with one level of below-grade parking and neighborhood-scale retail and food-service uses on the ground floor.

From August 2001 through September 2002, Mr. Baranski attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Center for Real Estate, where he was awarded a Masters of Science in Real Estate Development. He co-authored his thesis on a “Repeat Sales Index of Commercial Office Buildings in New York City from 1900-2000,” which has led to new interpretations of commercial office asset value growth over the long term, and was published in the Spring 2009 volume of Real Estate Economics.

Prior to his acceptance at MIT, Mr. Baranski focused on entrepreneurial development projects in promising growth areas in Boston. His projects ranged from the historic restoration of brownstone multi-families to the re-positioning of a manufacturing facility into artist’s workspace. From 1990 to 1999, he served as Director of Marketing for Shawmut Design and Construction, one of the North East region’s fastest-growing construction management firms.

Mr. Baranski holds a B.A. from Boston University and an M.S., R.E.D from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a Licensed Construction Superintendent in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He is an Adjunct Professor at the Northeastern University where he teaches a graduate-level class at the School of Architecture on real estate finance and development, a Visiting Lecturer at MIT and on the Steering Committee of MIT’s Housing Affordability Initiative.
